About

Diagnostic Radiology services range from simple x-rays of the bones and soft tissue to fluoroscopy of the digestive tract. The diagnostic section delivers patient-centered health care to adults, infants, children, and adolescents.

Services

Information
  • During normal duty hours, patients can check-in at the Main Radiology Front Desk.
  • After hours, patients can check-in at the Radiology Back Desk/Nuclear Medicine Desk.
  • Fluoroscopic exams must be scheduled in person at the Main Radiology Front Desk.

  • Routine x-ray plain film studies
  • Fluoroscopic examinations
  • Barium contrast studies
  • Iodinated contrast studies
Walk-In
  • Routine patients with an active x-ray order can walk-in at any time to have their exam completed.

Exam Preparation

Below are some of the exams performed here and their required preparation. If your exam is not listed or you have further questions please contact us for guidance.

  • Upper GI
  • No food after 7:00PM the day prior to your exam.
  • Nothing to drink after midnight the day prior to your exam.
  • No smoking or chewing gum the morning of your exam.
  • Barium Enema (BE)

The prep for a BE begins 3 days prior to the exam.

  • Do not eat or drink whole milk, fried foods, raw fruits or vegetables, meat or poultry products, rich foods, nuts, whole grain breads or cereals.
  • Begin the prep kit as instructed when you scheduled your exam.
  • Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP)

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you inform the Radiology Department if you are allergic to iodine or are a diabetic on Glucophage or Glucovane.

  • Begin your prep kit as instructed when you scheduled your procedure.
  • You DO NOT take the suppository that is in the prep kit. It can be discarded.

Q. What is Fluoroscopy?
A. Fluoroscopy is a technique used to obtain "live" images of a patient. Most often it is for observation of the digestive tract (upper GI, barium swallow, barium enema).

Appointments: Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.
Appointments: Tuesday, Thursday from 7:30 a.m. - 1:45 p.m.
Plain x-ray exams completed on a walk-in basis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Closed: All Federal Holidays and Selected Training Holidays

Once Inside

Diagnostic X-Ray and Fluoroscopy is located on the ground floor level in the radiology department, which is next to the emergency department. Patients can park in parking lot F Monday – Friday (just past the emergency room entrance), enter through glass doors at the central entrance, and turn right into Evans Hospital. Take another right and you will see radiology is near. Visitors requiring imaging and/or records should take a number at the kiosk in the radiology main waiting area. The ticket will tell you where you need to wait to be called back to Diagnostic X-Ray and Fluoroscopy. Note: The central entrance is closed on weekends. For Saturday appointments please arrive at the main entrance on the west side of the hospital.
